Low Bunk BedsLow bunk beds are
ideal for loft bedrooms and for small children and can create additional sleeping space in smaller
areas.
Attic conversions are a fantastic idea but unless you have the money to build a dormer conversion
you are unlikely to have much headroom. It is in these circumstances a normal sized bunk bed or tall bunk bed will
not fit and you should buy a low bunk bed instead.
Many experts recommend that children below eight
years old should not sleep in a standard sized bunk bed. This is because if they were to fall out of the top bunk
during their sleep they could cause themselves serious injury. It is therefore recommended that they sleep in a low
bunk bed until the age of nine. Luckily, there are many low bunk beds available and many retailers have a larger
selection for next day delivery.
Because the bed sits low to the ground you may have
to sacrifice any storage space below the bottom bunk but this clearly is a small price to pay for the parents peace
of mind. Low bunk beds cost the same as the tall variety, normally come in flat packed to be assembled so ensure
you have basic DIY skills or know someone who can put it together for you.
Some of the more recent designs actually convert into
two single beds should you need this in the future. One concern for parents that have children sharing a room is
the lack of privacy this gives them and although this can never be overcome completely some low bunk beds come with
a curtain that attaches to the base of the top bunk that allows a child on the bottom to pull the curtains to for
privacy.
Low bunk beds come in a variety of wood from pine to
Oak and also in lacquered metal. If you decide on a metal bed you need to ensure once you have constructed it that
there are no sharp edges protruding anywhere and make sure all the nuts are tightened sufficiently. One general
complaints amongst customers who buy metal bunk beds are that they can creak during the night and wake up their
children.
Most parents prefer pine bunk beds as they will also
suit against room once the children have grown up and left the house.
At the time of writing, you would expect to pay $150
or more for a good quality low bunk bed. If you choose wisely it should give you years of good service. Remember to
keep all instructions that come with the bed because if you move home or decide to advertise the bed for sale you
will need them.
